Automated Collection System Careers

IRS Career News in Iowa

The new IRS Automated Collection System call site in the Des Moines metro area is bringing a significant number of permanent, full time jobs to the community.  We plan to hire around 100 new employees by spring, with most others to follow by year's end. The new Des Moines area site is expected to begin operation in July of 2010.

The bulk of the employees will be Collection Representatives, which primarily deal with the public in a customer service role.  We are also hiring managers and technical specialists, and most of the people we hire will come from outside of the IRS

In order to qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen, pass background, tax and fingerprint checks and pass a telephone skills assessment. In addition, you must have a Bachelor’s Degree or four years of education above high school, or one year of job-related experience, or a combination of education and experience.

Our jobs will be posted on USAJOBS beginning October 5, 2009. The quickest way to search for our jobs is to visit the IRS custom search page on USAJOBS.

  • Select 0962 as the Occupational Series
  • Select "All" for the Location Search
  • Click "Search for Jobs".

Now, all you have to do is scan down the list of results until you find our jobs in the Des Moines metro area.  Clicking on the job title will take you directly to the vacancy announcement inside USAJOBS.
