Update of IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent Hiring

All tentative selected candidates from the April 2009 announcement are currently going through the clearance process which involves a medical examination, drug test, background investigation, and tax audit. Candidates that meet all necessary clearances will be considered for class placement at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy located in Glynco, GA and receive final job offers based on IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) needs for special agents in specific geographical locations. Consideration will be given to the candidate's post of duty (POD) preference list; however, special agents must be available for any POD assignment within the United States, including Puerto Rico. The tentative selected candidates will be considered for class placement in 2010/2011.

Only the first 500 qualified special agent applicants from the April 2009 Criminal Investigator (Special Agent) vacancy announcements for the GL-1811-5/7 and GL-1811-9 grades levels have initially been assessed. CI will not be assessing any additional special agent applicants. If CI hiring needs change, applicants will then be considered according to the date of receipt of their applications and may be contacted sometime in the future to proceed in the assessment process which includes the Skills Assessment Center (interview and written exercises) and the Physical Fitness Standards Test.
